Tahoe | Weekend Retreat

Skiing & Adventure - This past season was one of Tahoe’s best in terms of powder, I have nothing but high hopes for 2017.

RNO - Reno/Tahoe International Airport

Rental Car

In South Lake Tahoe, CA at Basecamp Hotel- A little over an hour drive from the airport, this is one of the most affordable places to stay. Not only are you within walking distance of the lifts, but if you choose to partake, you’re on the border of Nevada (casinos galore). The decor is outdoor inspired, meaning your desk lamp will look as though it runs off of kerosene & you’ll want to light a fire in your fireplace every night. It’s like glamping meets four-walls of luxury. The hotel has a few hot tubs & fire pits that you can roast s'mores over! There is a beer garden & they’re adding a brewery come January of 2017! In the morning, grab a bite - breakfast is included.

Warm - Tahoe isn’t as cold as Colorado in the winter, but be prepared for the weather. This is a ski town, so unless you plan to have a fancy night in the casinos - you can wear leggings & sweats almost everywhere. You’re not going to be turned away in your ski pants.

Ski Heavenly - Heavenly lifts are walking distance from the hotel, but there are plenty of places to ski & plenty of ticket packages that will get you on multiple lifts. This is the most expensive place I’ve ever skied, but I did see the cast of Vampire Diaries in the cafeteria, grabbing a quick bite. I guess the closer you get to Hollywood, the more expensive things get. Heavenly is huge though, you won’t be able to explore the entire place in one weekend.

Lake Tahoe - Take the time to drive over to South Lake Tahoe. Pull off every chance you get. The views are anything but lacking. You may even catch some winter scuba divers or a horse drawn sleigh. My favorite is Sand Harbor Beach because it’s eerie to see a lifeguard's chair sitting in snow.

The breweries - Where there is beer, there are locals. Like, where there is water, there is wildlife…. Seriously though, most of the locals are working the lifts, so when they get off they’re looking for beer - trust me. Lucky for you, Basecamp offers their patrons 30% off of a Tahoe Brew Tour. 5-6 hours of tasting local brews doesn’t sound too bad!

Basecamp Beer Garden - Yup, I know, the hotel restaurant isn’t that adventurous. When you’re skiing the day away though - you don’t want to travel far for food & honestly the reviews of the places to eat in the area weren’t as enticing as the Basecamp’s Beer Garden. Sign up for a communal dinner & enjoy a 3 course chef prepared meal. If you don’t sign up, you aren’t out of luck, their brats & burgers are fantastic!

Total: 3-Night Trip for Two $1983

Flights: (From OKC) Roundtrip, $367

Hotel: Thursday ($149) & Friday/Saturday ($558) - Totals $786.71 (including taxes & fees & requires a 3-night stay)

Rental Car: Economy Car, $156.75 (including taxes & fees) for 3 nights

Lift Ticket: 2-day, $211/person - Totals $422 for 2 people

Spending: I always pack $250 for a 3-night trip

Note: Think this sounds like a lot? Consider how much you spend playing at home on a weekend!

    I love this post!

Tahoe is a fantastic place to spend a long weekend in the winter. My grandpa lives in Reno and we visit him often in the winter. We always drive up to Tahoe for a day, spend some time in the snow, and eat at The Eagles’ Nest.
